Define the organisation’s role and the beneficiary
An NGO can organise a campaign, verify a household’s needs or deliver a community project, but these roles should be described separately. Identify the registered organisation, the person authorised to manage the appeal and the account that will receive the money. State whether the campaign supports named eligible individuals or a broader programme, and explain the budget with quotations or documented costs. IndiaZakat describes fundraising involving beneficiaries and NGOs; its presence on a platform does not remove an organisation’s responsibility for truthful information. Charitable status alone should not be presented as proof that every proposed expense qualifies for zakat.
Design controls before asking for contributions
Create a process for approving expenditure, recording invoices and reporting results without exposing beneficiaries’ sensitive information. Explain whether donors can restrict their contribution and how unspent funds, cancelled activities or unmet targets will be handled. An organisation seeking overseas support should examine the applicable FCRA requirements and the donor’s citizenship and funding source before accepting a transfer. Do not assume that an Indian-currency payment is necessarily domestic or that an international payment gateway supplies the required permission. Obtain appropriate advice for the organisation’s actual circumstances. After delivery, publish a concise account of funds received, expenses paid and the community benefit achieved.
