In India, medical treatment crowdfunding is an online way for patients and families to raise money for hospital bills, surgeries, medicines and long-term care by sharing their story on a digital platform and inviting hundreds or thousands of people to donate small amounts.
Unlike a bank loan, there is no debt to repay to donors: contributions are usually gifts or, in some cases, qard hasan–style support inside families or communities, while the platform acts as a technology and payment intermediary.
